Special events in Cambridge to celebrate and promote Fairtrade.
Throughout the fortnight
Go bananas
Cambridge University Fairtrade Steering Group
This student led group is running lots of internal events during Fairtrade Fortnight including Fairtrade football, pancake stalls, formal dinners and speakers events.
Emmanuel United Reform Church Fairshares Café, Trumpington Street
This year the theme of Fairtrade Fortnight is ‘Go Bananas’ so the URC’s Fairshares Cafe has added a special selection of ‘banana’ dishes to their menu, including Banana cake, Banana split and Banana smoothies.
Please do pop in during the fortnight for a banana-flavoured treat!
Open 10:30am – 3:00pm Tues – Fri.
Anglia Ruskin University
Staff and students will have the opportunity to enter the Go BANANAS challenge, try Fairtrade snacks, buy Fairtrade clothing, play with Fairtrade footballs and find out what Fairtrade is all about, with Oxfam, Cambridge World Development Movement and Wombat (Fairtrade clothing).

Two recycling points in Cambridge have recently been closed; at Cowley Road Park & Ride site and the car park of The Ship public house in Kings Hedges.

Tetra Pak style cartons can now be recycled at the recycling point in Cherry Hinton Hall car park, as well as Tesco, Sainsbury’s, The Beehive Centre, Focus DIY and Waitrose.

A THIRD battery recycling point has been opened in Cambridge – at Dee’s Budgens in Arbury.
This follows the success of recycling points at Waitrose in Trumpington, and at Cambridge City Council’s customer service centre in Regent Street.

To celebrate national Compost Awareness Week, Cambridge City Council is digging deep to give away free soil conditioner that residents have helped to make by recycling.
Recycling officers will be at the Beehive Centre car park on Thursday 8th May from 10am-2pm, shovelling compost made from green bin waste into sacks for residents to take away – all you need to do is bring your own sack.

Cambridge snow, surf and street wear specialist, Two Seasons, is celebrating its 25th birthday this weekend (16 and 17 February) with a charity ‘cash for clobber’ event. The store, on Mitcham’s Corner, is inviting people to bring in their old, embarrassing ski and snowboard gear and swap it for vouchers to spend in Two Seasons.

Cycling shoppers at Waitrose in Trumpington will be able to take advantage of brand new cycle trailers provided by the store in partnership with the council.
