The Magnificent Revolutionary Cycling Cinema (MRCC) is the only UK bicycle-powered cinema, uniting art, education and sustainability. Everyone involved in the project is volunteering their time and the cycle cinema runs as a non-profit organisation.
Thanks to funding from the Big Chill Festival the MRCC was able to premiere at the festival in August 2007. Audience participation helped to power the cinema on 10 specially converted bicycles.
The films shown are short and feature length films about environmental issues including climate change, DIY, bike culture, and sustainability.
A project grant awarded by Sustainable City will be used to create a programme of local bicycle powered events at schools, local festivals and venues.
Over 40 volunteers are involved in the project, but more are needed, and technical expertise and donations are always welcomed. If you want to get involved in a truly unique experience amid this diverse, talented and enthusiastic community then please do get in touch with MRCC via cyclecinema@gmail.com .
